Xenosaga, Baten Kaitos DS-Bound
12.01.04 - 7:08 PM

Nintendo has added two high profile RPGs to its DS release date list. So far, both games are tentatively called Xenosaga DS and Baten Kaitos DS and like their PlayStation 2 and GameCube cousins will be published by developer Monolith Software's parent company Namco. Whether the two titles will be remakes, gaidens or new installments has yet to be announced. Furthermore, it remains to be seen, whether Monolith Software, which so far has only worked on PlayStation 2 and GameCube titles will be responsible for the development of the two games.
Xenosaga Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht (The Will to Power) for PlayStation 2 was released in Japan in February 2002. On June 24th, Namco released the game's sequel Xenosaga Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Boese (Beyond Good and Evil). Episode II will be available in North America on February 15th 2005. Baten Kaitos - Owaranai Tsubasa Ushinawareta Umi (Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean) was originally released for the GameCube in Japan in December 2003, with the US version hitting American retail store shelves only last month.

Xenosaga DS and Baten Kaitos DS have yet to receive official release dates.

Nobuo Uematsu Leaves Square Enix
10.30.04 - 4:18 PM

Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu has left Square Enix and is set to found his own company. Reflecting on his busy recent schedule, which included a Final Fantasy concert tour throughout Japan this year, activities related to his rock band The Black Mages as well as composer duties for last year's Hanjuku Eiyuu Tai 3D and the upcoming Final Fantasy XII, Uematsu mentioned, it might be best for him to become a freelance composer. However, he mentioned that there is still a possibility his relationship with his former employer will continue. Looking back Uematsu said he really liked his compositions for Final Fantasy VI, VII and VIII and will never forget Final Fantasy VIII's main theme Eyes on Me.

Nobuo Uematsu's departure is just one of many high profile resignations that has hit the world's leading maker of RPGs in the last few years. Following the resignations of Seiken Densetsu designer and current Brownie Brown president Shinichi Kameoka, Xeno series creator Tetsuya Takahashi and composer Yasunori Mitsuda, Chrono series mastermind and Chrono Cross director Masato Katou left the company in 2002. Final Fantasy mastermind Hironobu Sakaguchi, who has not been involved in the game creation process since Final Fantasy VII, has set up his own company Mist Walker. The most recent departure came when scenario writer Kazushige Nojima, who has worked on Final Fantasy VII, VIII, X, X-2 and the Kingdom Hearts series left Square Enix for Stella Vista late last year. Despite working as freelance composers, Youko Shimomura (Parasite Eve, Seiken Densetsu Legend of Mana, Kingdom Hearts), Kenji Itou (SaGa series, Chocobo Mysterious Dungeon) and Hitoshi Sakimoto (Final Fantasy Tactics, Vagrant Story, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, Final Fantasy XII) have continued to work for Square Enix on various projects.

Namco Talks Tales of Eternia Online
10.21.04 - 4:26 AM

In a recent interview, producer Yoshinori Satou talked about Namco's first MMORPG, Tales of Eternia Online. The PC title, which the company is developing jointly with Dwango, has been in planning for two years. Like its Japanese competitors Square Enix and Sega, Namco is not only planning to release the game in Japan, but also the Asia Pacific region with its major markets China, Taiwan and South Korea. To this purpose, the game is designed in a way that it can be run in internet cafes, which are used by many Asian fans outside Japan to play games. The fact that in those markets the PC is the No.1 platform has only influenced Namco's selection of the PC as target platform. Currently there are no plans to release Tales of Eternia Online on other hardware platforms other than the PC. The rising popularity of Japanese anime in other parts of Asia made the company pick the Tales series with its anime-style visuals as basis for its first MMORPG. Tales of Eternia specifically was selected because of its two-world scenario and the possibilities this scenario offers seemed very intriguing to the development team. The beginning of the MMORPG however will be different from Tales of Eternia's beginning. While the producer refused to confirm whether it was possible to meet the playable characters of the original game, he mentioned that players will hear rumors about the adventurers from townspeople. System-wise, the game will feature the classic auto-mode function from previous installments. Enemy encounters won't be random, as enemies will be highlighted by symbols. Parties will consist of a maximum of four players, but the game will also allow for players to take on monsters individually. There will be no differences between cooperate and single-player game play.

Tales of Eternia Online Website Goes Live
10.08.04 - 9:40 AM

Namco has opened the official website for its PC MMORPG Tales of Eternia Online. The game, which is jointly developed with Dwango, will not only allow players to create their own customized character by selecting his or her profession, gender, hairdo, facial contours, eyes, etc., but also by choosing to outfit their alter ego with unique, over-the-top clothes, such as a pirate's costume, a bee costume, a cat costume or a mushroom costume. So far five job classes have been revealed: Warrior (sword and shield techniques, defending other party members), fencer (carries weapons in both hands and deals great amounts of damage to enemies), grappler (combo attacks, healing, wide range of abilities), holy magician (healing, defensive magic) and black magician (attack magic).
Tales of Eternia Online will be available in Japan sometime in spring 2005. The beta testing phase will begin in early 2005.

Cartoon Network MegaMan Marathon a fake?

Quite a while ago, it was reported from the ToonZone forums that a "MegaMan" marathon would be airing on Cartoon Network this Saturday, October 2nd. However, with "MegaMan" being no where in sight on Cartoon Network's online schedules, it seems the previous report wasn't true. Unless Cartoon Network makes a very impromptu scheduling change, we're going to have to wait a while longer to see our blue bomber on CN.

CN does the stupidest things sometimes..they might as well put a fucking looney tunes marathon -_-
